ALCON
Birds
We teamed up with H4B and Alcon to produce a campaign promoting the benefits of a surgical option that addresses both cataracts and astigmatism. We created a 30 second spot that was adapted for print and cinemagraphs - delivering three executions with one production pipeline. The spot required extensive character concepting and integrating live action with CG birds.
PRE PRODUCTION | CONCEPT
Our pre-production team had to familiarize themselves with bird anatomy to the point we where looking at bird skeletons, muscles and exactly how both Andy and Cathy would move. In order to bring the birds to life we worked closely with our storyboard artist and concept artists to bring personality and character to the narrative. The agency provided us with a basic script and from there we had complete creative carte blanche to work with our in-house Creative Director and Live action director to define the flow of the shoot and CG.
Shoot Production | behind the scenes
The shoot was a fantastic mix of photography, live action film making and digital videos for cinemegraphs. A truly soup to nuts approach to production. We worked closely with the agency to plan the shoot day to ensure each deliverable was captured at the highest fidelity. We had our live action director driving the story for motion, the photographer picking up lifestyle shots and our digital photographer capture cinemegraphs and talent movement. Our VFX supervisors oversaw all the action to capture the information which would translate from the real world into CGI post production.
Post Production | CGI
Post production for the birds was a huge task. After locking editorial, we started to track the live action cameras to create CG worlds in which our birds could live. After giving our birds virtual skeletons to make them move we started to animate them into the live action scenes to create their performance. Our talent grooming team gave the birds feathers and animated them blowing in the wind. From there, our shading artists applied light, color and materials which our compositors then took to finish and add the photographic nuance and color grades which brought the final spot to life.
