HONDA CIVIC HATCHBACK
Challenge
When it came time to collaborate with our good friends at RPA on the new Honda Civic Hatchback, they wanted to save time. We were to deliver 38 all-new images, and 17 CGI updates in a short turnaround. We pitched three approaches to the team -- including a new, innovate bespoke approach using UE4 technology.
Our traditional pipeline is very linear; we work with the client, and then go and work on our own, again and again. Usually, we screenshare with the client at this discovery phase; while this works, it isn't ideal. The screenshare isn't representative of what the shots will look like in delivery.
RPA was excited about our new approach; we decided to shift into high gear with our new, innovative UE technology for angle studies, which provides the client with a Digital Twin of the product.
PRODUCTION | lens & real-time angle study
Our Approach
Digital Twin replicates when you and your on-set photographer take reference shots. The main advantage of the technology is that the environment is fully CGI; you can pick any angle, any lens. The client has free reign and full control about what they want to shoot. What the client sees is like being on set; they are getting a realistic representation of the final image, rendered, retouched and delivered. With our approach, you get reflections, realistic lighting which can be changed on request, and can move the camera around for new angles.
For the Honda Civic Hatchback, we set up 2 or 3 angles as a starting point, and had a live session with the team at RPA. We can make adjustments live while on the call with the client; we can tweak lights and rotate, and when RPA wanted to see nighttime around the vehicle, we made it happen.

Solution
This hybrid approach yields the best possible results, and builds a platform for more efficient and scalable future output. This new technology can be applied to any sector; it can be used for any project that requires an angle study. This created more efficiency and collaboration, and in turn, more trust and increased communication with the client.
