QATAR INTERNATIONAL FOOD FESTIVAL
TBWA/RAAD came to us to create the visual content for their print and TVC campaign to launch the Qatar International Food Festival (QIFF). With the festival dates confirmed for only 4 weeks from start of production, we had a great challenge ahead of us! A combination of photography integrated with CGI was used to create this delightful stylised animation brimming with delicious food from around the world.
Originally we were asked to do the photography for 35 talents, but due to time constraints we had to think of a quicker creative solution, still keeping in line with the brief. We held a 1-day photo shoot to capture the hand and the chef in the first frames and built the rest entirely in CGI. We created a whole miniature world with 3D characters, in which we modelled 117 characters, posed them within the 3D environment and most importantly, made them smile! At the heart of the campaign is about the variety of food, the exact food items on all the plates have been modelled to high detail – zoom into see for yourself.
BEHIND THE SCENES
An initial storyboard was drawn up for the client, to establish how the opening live action scene could transition into our 3D stylised world. It blocks out a rough narrative, considering camera moves and composition.
Shoot Production
This production shoot video gives a fascinating insight into the Qiff production which consisted of both still image and live action capture. These kind of videos are increasingly being requested by clients as a cost effective way to create more Brand content for digital, internal and social media events.
Post Production
We aim to do a 3D Animatic as early as possible in Pre-Production. It allows us to more accurately plan the framing, camera moves and timing of each shot, knowing that lensing and perspectives are all correct and we can ensure all the technical elements will translate seamlessly on the actual shoot. By removing any unknowns, we can accurately define the size of studio required and the logistics of setting up for Stills and Motion in the same studio.
