ROLE OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic opportunity to become part of our world-renowned, extremely talented, and rapidly growing Automotive + Future Technology Team.  As a Real-Time / Unreal Engine Technical Artist, you will be responsible for working alongside Developers and Artists in devising and implementing both internal prototypes and delivering high-quality products and projects across a range of mediums on cutting-edge hardware, VR, AR, real-time animation, virtual production, and other exciting platforms. You will be responsible for leading and facilitating the successful and efficient delivery of technical requirements and functionality for multiple real-time experiences. You’ll be joining at a very exciting time, exploring new real-time technologies, and innovating new ways to engage consumers through industry-leading immersive experiences. This is an ideal role for an experienced game and real-time experience developers looking for new opportunities to develop their career and play a lead role in the development of our processes and pipeline to drive forward continual improvements and efficiency. The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of art and animation pipelines in addition to the content creation pipeline in Unreal.

In this position you will work with our CGI & Real-Time teams (primarily located within the UK, EMEA as well as the Americas) to support workflows and processes critical to our pipeline.  This is a role with responsibilities split between solving immediate/short-term problems, as well as improving long-term workflows and practices.  You will bring experience and understanding of production pipelines; from previsualization through rendering, comp, finishing and delivery.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with the CGI & Real-Time teams to design interactive experiences using Unreal Engine

  • Material Creation - Design complex materials in Unreal Engine and instruct artists on best practices for material creation

  • Lighting - Be well versed in the various lighting techniques in Unreal Engine and instruct the artists in lighting best practices

  • Optimization - Optimize content through profiling and enhancing performance with the help of diagnostic tools and instructing the artists on modelling and texturing best practices

  • Collaborate with programmers to develop and test new features, prototype shader code, and provide useful feedback during R&D phases

  • A demonstrable level of technical knowledge combined with strong creative and visual instinct

Professional Experience & Knowledge:

  • Solid understanding of lighting, particle systems, post-processes, material setup and general workflows inside UE

  • At least 2 years of industry experience with Unreal Engine

    • Experience with Unity is also useful

  • Advance experience of Unreal Engine Blueprints system

  • Advanced experience with 3DS Max, Maya, VRay, Nuke, and/or Houdini

  • Comfortable in a range of content creation software including Photoshop, Zbrush/Mudbox, Substance Painter, etc.

  • Experience with VR/AR authoring in Unreal Engine

  • 3DS Max &/or Maya Rigging experience

  • Understanding of creative production and/or animation pipelines, including vehicle, character, and environment setups

  • Solid organization skills with adherence to file structures, naming conventions, and other established protocols

  • Shader programming experience

Beneficial Knowledge:

  • Strong plug-in writing skills and/or understanding of C++ in a UE environment

  • Scripting skills with MEL, Python, C#, Javascript and C++

  • Experience with AWS cloud systems

  • Experience with the Deadline render management system and its plugin and event systems

  • Positive attitude towards learning and sharing

  • Deadline oriented; able to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Able to solve problems as they arise and remain calm in high-pressure situations
